Roles
The heart of our club
Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to the club, make a valuable contribution and help play an active role in the club’s future direction.
New volunteers are always welcome to join the committee, coach or be team manager.

Committee
The St Christopher’s Junior Basketball Club is run by a committee of volunteers. The committee is responsible for the governance of the club in accordance with Keilor Basketball Association and Basketball Victoria policies and regulations.
Coaches
Our teams are coached by volunteers, typically parents and guardians within our Saints community. The role of coaches at our club is to:
1. Teach children how to play basketball
- Coaches will guide young players in:
- developing basketball skills
- understanding game rules
- improving their performance.
- This includes, coaching players in:
- fair play and good sportsmanship
- encouraging teammates
- respecting the opposition
- respecting referees decisions at all times
- Coaches will strive to provide all players with equitable opportunities to participate during games.
- Domestic is all about participation!
3. Address individual needs
Coaches will pay attention to each player’s unique requirements, whether related to:
- skill development
- confidence-building
- or other aspects.
Team Manager
Our team managers are usually a parent or guardian from each Saints team. The team manager does not provide coaching advice. The role of team manager at our club is to:
1. Act as key liaison between club and team
Communicate key information from the club to families and players, such as via a WhatsApp group chat, which may include:
- club behaviour expectations
- return date for next season
- registration date for next season
- uniform fittings and collections
- basketball training camps
- club presentation day and social events
- develop a scoring roster for your team
- communicate game day location, time and who is scoring
2. Support coaches during games
Sit near the bench to support coaches during games:
- ensure players drink water
- seek medical assistance for player injuries
- welfare issues
3. Manager spectator behaviour
- Prior to and on game days, remind your team’s spectators about our club’s expectations.
- If spectators show signs of inappropriate behavior, ask them to go outside, reset and return once calm.
- Escalate to KBA staff if necessary
